Facilities – musical and otherwise

We are justly proud of our musical facilities at ISSMUS, and teaching and practice rooms are dispersed across the site in ‘zones’ by course. The performance and teaching hub is to be found in the Maidment Building, Shrewsbury School’s purpose-built music block, which will house the Choral Singing and Young Pianists courses, and tuition spaces for several Bolt-ons. There are also extensive practice facilities in this block, and an excellent concert hall in which all student recitals are held. Teaching rooms for all other Courses are to be found in other buildings around the site (you will be provided with a map on arrival detailing their exact location); and practice facilities are also provided in each teaching zone.
Students are of course free to explore the grounds, and the centre of town is just a short walk away. Also on site during the week, you will find…
A music stall provided by Salop Sheet Music. The stall is open from Monday-Friday, 12.30-1.30pm in the Maidment Building, selling a wide range of sheet music (including set repertoire for the choral course), greetings cards, presents and accessories. It is also possible to place orders for music, which can be posted to your home address once the week is over. Music for the Choral Course can be bought in advance from Salop Sheet Music – click here to visit their website.

The ISSMUS shop, operated by members of the committee, stocks bottled water and basic medications, postcards, pencils, stamps etc. We also sell bottles of wine to accompany your evening meal. Items can be purchased whenever the ISSMUS office is open (most of the day and evenings). Local shops are a short walk away.
The School’s Swimming Pool is also open for use by ISSMUS students, from Monday-Friday, 6.30-8.30am – so don’t forget to pack your goggles!
