In this section of the website, you’ll find information about the city of Shrewsbury, the School grounds and accommodation, how to find us, and all other practical details about the way that ISSMUS runs. Once you are accepted for a place at the summer school, you will be sent a more detailed information pack – in the meantime, if you have questions about anything you read here (or something you can’t find!), simply contact us.
Doing the Courses and Bolt-ons
You’ll find information about practical requirements and teaching structures under the Course & Bolt-ons tab, along with the structure of a typical working day. Information about the tutors can be found under the Tutorial team tab. Timetables for Courses and Bolt-ons will be distributed nearer the time, and all students benefit from sitting in on other classes (both within their own courses, and others) – something that you are very welcome to do at any point during the week.
The School site is large, and it can take a little time to walk between teaching, practice and accommodation buildings. If you have any special access requirements, please let us know in advance on your Application Form. We will do our best to accommodate your needs; and blue badge holders may use their cars on site.
We welcome course participants from age 12 upwards, and under-18s will have the benefit of two house-parents in addition to their tutors. In addition to the dedicated Young Pianists programme, we also accept applications for under-18s on any other ISSMUS course. Under-14s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Observers, such as parents accompanying young musicians, are very welcome. If you attend for the full week as an observer you will be charged the ISSMUS Membership fee only. If you wish to attend for less than the full week, please contact us to discuss the fee payable. Please be aware that all visitors need to book their accommodation and meals in advance of the summer school week, and register at the ISSMUS office when they arrive on site.
