Piano Performance
Tutor: Margaret Fingerhut
Places remaining
Experience: Grade 7 to diploma +
Teaching time: 4 one-to-one lessons in an informal masterclass setting, plus group sessions (with students on the Adult Amateur Piano course) as time allows.
Performance: Opportunities to perform in both formal and informal concerts.
This course offers more experienced players the opportunity to study in depth aspects of interpretation and advanced pianism. It will focus on the art of touch, how to control and vary the sound, matters of voicing, colour, articulation and fingering. The fundamental issue of pedalling (“the soul of the piano”) will be highlighted. Another important part of the course will be about how to practice more creatively and purposefully.
The performance opportunities during the week will also naturally give rise to the topic of performance psychology.
Pianists should bring 3 or 4 different works, preferably encompassing different styles. It would be helpful if the list of chosen pieces could be submitted prior to the start of the Summer School so that it can be circulated to everyone on the course.
