Choral Workshop
Workshop leader: Christopher Robinson
Saturday 11th August 2012
9:30am – 5:30pm
Maidment building
Fee £45
This one day choral workshop is a great opportunity to visit ISSMUS for the day and enjoy tuition from a world-class choral conductor. In 2012 we are delighted to welcome the conductor Christopher Robinson as our workshop leader. Christopher’s particular specialism is British choral repertoire; the works to be studied during the day will therefore explore this repertoire with emphasis on Coronation music, to reflect the celebrations of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. There will also be some discussion of the history of the pieces being studied and the background of the composers.
Repertoire will be selected from:
Gibbons – O Clap your Hands (part 1)
Handel – Zadok the Priest
Wesley – Thou wilt keep him
Elgar – Partsongs
Moeran – Songs of Springtime
We accept participants from age 12 upwards. Some choral singing experience would be an advantage. Scores will be provided for all students on the day, there is no advance preparation required.
The workshop runs from 9:30am to 5:30pm and includes lunch and tea/coffee. Christopher will lead teaching sessions during the course of the day, culminating in a short informal performance which will be attended by ISSMUS participants (and anyone you would like to bring along to listen!)
Those attending the workshop are welcome to stay for dinner and the ISSMUS Pub Quiz for an extra £15.
Those attending the remainder of the ISSMUS week may attend the choral workshop for no extra fee.
