From our Music Director, Katy Hamilton

A very warm welcome to the ISSMUS website! If you are an aspiring amateur musician looking for world-class tuition, a chance to meet like-minded people, and most of all the opportunity to make music and have fun with it, you have come to the right place. The International Summer School of Music at Shrewsbury provides a warm, friendly environment within which to do all of these things, for students of all ages and abilities.

You will probably notice the phrase ‘an integrated approach to music-making’ in a lot of our publicity. That’s something we pride ourselves on here at ISSMUS, and as you’ll see from the brochure, the 2012 week includes all kinds of opportunities to sing, play, conduct, compose, and have a go at musical and theatrical activities that are completely new to you. And I’m particularly delighted, in my first year as Music Director, to be able to welcome such a distinguished and enthusiastic team of tutors – not to mention our visiting recitalist and masterclass coach, Dame Felicity Lott. So enjoy the brochure, have fun choosing the courses and extras that you would like to take part in – and I look forward very much to welcoming you to Shrewsbury in August.
